Entrepreneur Showcase: Elizabeth Brave

At RYZ we interview creative and motivated people who are actively pursuing their dreams. Today we interview Elizabeth Brave:

Elizabeth is a bookkeeper with more than ten years of experience. Elizabeth has worked for high tech, legal and nonprofit organizations. She has lived in San Diego since August of 1980 and considers it home. Her home office is located in University Heights, and she travels the county for onsite client work as well. She loves IT and problem solving!

What was your background before you became an entrepreneur?

I worked as an office manager for many years before becoming an independent bookkeeper about three years ago.

Was there any defining moment that led you to pursue your current path?

I was downsized from the nonprofit I worked at for six years, and decided to make a change.

Tell us a little about some of the projects/works that you have created?

I work in commercial and nonprofit accounting. I have set up accounting software for those adverse to accounting and software from scratch.

What projects are you working on now?

I donate my time to two nonprofit boards and am a member of a networking organization outside of my paid client work.

Who would you say are the people that have influenced you the most?

There’s so many! I would have to say the peace movements and vegan movements of the world have influenced my world view. Professionally being told by another bookkeeper to go out on my own has been instrumental to creating my business.

What are some of the challenges that you have faced and how do you face new challenges?

Creating accounting records when previous history is not available!

What work are you most proud of?

As an IT geek, I have been able to integrate software programs and streamline accounting functions for my clients.

Do you have any advice for an aspiring entrepreneur?

Don’t be afraid to strike out on your own. Plan your exit by saving money in preparation for the lean times; networking, networking, networking.

Where can people go to learn more about your work?
